Although looking like a fishing town with a strong connection to the sea, it's actually more of a farming village. One reason for that are the shallow waters that surround the port town. Another were the constant failures to launch the project to make it a harbor city.

The town is known abroad for its premium wine.

History

After the crowning of Bartali as the founding king of Balenos, Velia became the capital of the kingdom. Even after the death of the last king, Bartali III, his descendants have always ruled the territory from this town.
