A territory is the geographic area unit in which the world of Black Desert is divided into. Territories, also called regions, have unalterable borders. Land territories are represented with a crest derived from the political states that control, or used to control, each territory. In that way territories are both geographic and political divisions.
It's important to note that the name of the territory does NOT necessarily equal the faction ruling it. Guilds can conquer territories or parts of them as part of the game mechanics. NPC-based faction rule is unalterable. For example the Balenos territory is de jure currently under the rule of the Republic of Calpheon, as is the territory of Serendia, regardless of which player guild controls the whole territory or the majority of its nodes.
